Our Story

The Centre for Earth and Spirit is a registered charity, incorporated in 2003 with a retreat centre originally located at the glorious waterfront site known as Glenairley in East Sooke on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

The initial purpose was to foster and heal the Earth-human relationship by providing land and cultural based experiences to raise awareness, encourage an earth based spirituality, and inspire consciousness for the human stewardship for the Earth. For more than a decade It offered hundreds of programs and retreats focusing on a new cosmology, embodied eco-spirituality, eco-psychology and First Nations traditional ecological knowledge as well as hands on courses in permaculture, ecology and restoration.

When the Sisters of St. Ann decided to sell the retreat centre in East Sooke, the Centre’s Board of Directors decided to continue offering programs based in Victoria using a variety of sites both urban and rural for programs.

Earth & Spirit continues to be inspired by the cosmological vision of Thomas Berry, Brian Swimme, Joanna Macy and others to reconnect humans to nature and deepen an earth-based spirituality. Other interests include deepening our understanding and collaboration with First Nations, and the emerging role of consciousness in the evolution of the cosmos.
