At Earth & Spirit Café we offer monthly drop-in gatherings (every fourth Thursday of the month). Each month we host a guest speaker exploring knowledge that honours our dance of relationship with Earth and Spirit. A diversity of topics includes: reciprocal land use, respect for Indigenous ways of knowing, tending death with consciousness, and inspirational change-makers.
✨DECOLONIZING OUR COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS: A Settler’s Journey from Ada’itsx (Fairy Creek) to the Indigenous Wisdom Traditions & Sacred Plant Medicines of Peru✨
In this February 2023 session, Joseph Fisher shares reflections on decolonizing our collective consciousness, through the story of his journey, as a settler, from Ada’itsx (Fairy Creek) to Indigenous wisdom traditions and sacred plant medicines of Peru.
ABOUT JOSEPH FISHER:
Joseph lives and works on the unceded traditional territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ and Lekwungen peoples, on the beautiful west coast of Turtle Island. He works as a massage therapist and is also an accomplished pianist with a university degree in classical piano performance and teaching. He began his spiritual path many years ago with Yoga, which evolved into the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism.
In 2021, Joseph spent five months at the Ada’itsx (Fairy Creek) blockade, joining a community of land defenders attempting to save ancient forests through direct action. Putting his body in the way of an industry that is at the root of colonial violence was his initiation into a personal journey of de-colonizing his consciousness through embodied experience.
Seeking a deeper understanding of Shamanism and Indigenous wisdom, Joseph spent most of 2022 living in Peru, working with sacred plant medicines and different practices such as breathwork to begin understanding the wisdom of the enlightened ancestors found within all of us. He began to see how indigenous people all around the world embody this ancient wisdom, and that the key to restoring balance and harmony in the world starts from within, re-wiring our brains, re-shaping our consciousness, and re-indigenizing ourselves back into the interconnected web of life and the primordial wisdom of the heart.
In this conversation, Joseph will share parts of his story and the lessons learned while dancing with the earth and spirit, and some ideas on how we can decolonize our collective consciousness!
The second half turns into a ‘cafe-style’ round-table discussion where conversation and inquiry are welcomed!
