Eco-Music Therapy: Mental Health and Music amidst the Climate Emergency

At Earth & Spirit Café we offer monthly drop-in gatherings (every fourth Thursday of the month). Each month we host a guest speaker exploring knowledge that honours our dance of relationship with Earth and Spirit. A diversity of topics includes: reciprocal land use, respect for Indigenous ways of knowing, tending death with consciousness, and inspirational change-makers.

In this session, Deborah Seabrook, PhD MTA RCC (she/her) will introduce us to the field of Eco-Music Therapy, sharing sonic explorations for consciousness shifting. For the first half of our session, we join together to learn from Deborah and the second half turns into a ‘cafe-style’ round-table discussion where silence, conversation, and inquiry are equally welcomed!

As an educator, clinician, scholar, and activist, Deborah aims to shift consciousness around the climate emergency and motivate transformative, life-affirming action. She is inspired by collectively imagining bold, sustainable futures amidst the heartbreaking impacts of the climate crisis. Deborah is a Climate-Aware Therapist with the Climate Psychology Alliance of North-America, a Research Fellow of the Institute for Music Therapy Research at Wilfrid Laurier University and Adjunct Faculty in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University.
